How Employee Commission Rules Work

A commission rule describes how a business calculates a variable earning for an employee based on eligible work, products, services, revenue, targets, or another defined business event.

Percentage commission

A percentage rule calculates commission from an eligible amount. For example, a business may define a percentage for a particular service category or employee.

Fixed commission

A fixed rule assigns a predefined amount when an eligible event occurs. This can be easier to understand when the business pays the same commission for every qualifying service or product.

Why the eligibility rule matters

A commission percentage by itself is incomplete. The system also needs to know who is eligible, what activity qualifies, which amount should be used, and when the commission becomes payable.
